การใช้ verb to be
verb to be นั้น เราจะเห็นกันบ่อยใน ประโยคภาษาอังกฤษนะครับ verb to be ก็จะมี is, am, are ซึ่งก็จะใช้ กับ ประธานของประโยคที่แตกต่างกัน
คราวนี้ในภาษาอังกฤษนั้นการบ่งบอกถึงการกระทำ(กริยา) ในแต่ละช่วงเวลา นั้น เราก็จะใช้ verb ที่รูปแตกต่างกัน ดังนั้น ก็จะเกิดกริยาใน รูป ปัจจุบัน และอดีต ขึ้นมา ( V1(ปัจจุบัน) V2 V3)
เรามาดูกันว่า is am are นั้นจะมีรูปอดีตเป็นอย่างไรบ้าง

Verb to be โดยความหมายแล้วนั้นจะแปลว่า เป็น อยู่ คือ หน้าที่ของ Verb to be ที่มีให้เราเห็นในประโยคภาษาอังกฤษบ่อยๆเลยก็คือ
1. เป็นกริยา
เช่น It is a cat
ประธาน+กริยา+กรรม
หรือ It is here
ประธาน+กริยา+คำขยายกริยา(จะเห็นได้ว่าไม่จำเป็นต้องตามด้วยกรรม)
2. เป็นตัวบอกการเวลา อันนี้น้องต้องไปทบทวนความรู้เกี่ยวกับ Tense ต่างๆที่มีในภาษาอังกฤษ
ถ้าเราพูดถึงเหตุการในปัจจุบัน verb to be จะใช้ใน Continuous Tense เช่น
เช่น I am watching TV .
ประธาน+ กริยา+ กรรม
จะเห็นได้ว่ากริยาในประโยคนี้ไม่ใช่ am แต่คือ watch ซึ่ง am ในประโยค นี้เป็นตัวบ่งบอกว่า ประโยคนี้อยู่ใน Continuous Tense คือ บ่งบอก ว่า I ซึ่งเป็นประธาน กำลัง(am) ดูทีวี คือการกระทำกำลังเกิดขึ้นในขณะนี้
3.เราใช้ Verb to be ในประโยค Passive Voice ซึ่งเป็นประโยคที่แสดงถึงการถูกกระทำ
เช่น
This book was written by me.
กรรม + verb + ผู้กระทำ
จะเห็นได้ว่าในประโยคนี้ was คือ Verb to be ซึ่งเป็นตัวบ่งบอกว่า ประโยคนี้ หนังสือเป็นสิ่งที่ถูกกระทำ คือ ถูกเขียนขึ้นมา
